A friend of ours is in critical condition – please pray

Earlier this week I informed you of the passing away of a former Rock For Life staffer and great friend Kortney Blythe Gordon and her preborn child, Sophy.  Thanks to everyone for your prayers, your words of support and encouragement and also your financial contributions.  Her husband, Ben and their families are deeply moved by all of this.  Students for Life announced that all of the funeral expenses have been paid for.  Praise God!

Unfortunately we still need your prayers.  Jon Scharfenberger, Students for Life’s Campus Support Coordinator and Pregnant on Campus Coordinator is in critical condition.  Jon was in the passenger seat of the vehicle Kortney was driving.  He has been showing some improvement recently but is still in bad shape.  Please keep him, his recovery and his family in your prayers.  Click here for the latest on his condition and check back there for updates.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jon while filming a promotion for the Pregnant on Campus initiative.  Jon is a bright young man with a strong future in the pro-life movement.  Let’s keep praying for a full recovery.

Tomorrow is Kortney & Sophys funeral service in Matthews, North Carolina from 11:30 -2:00 pm.  You can RSVP here.  There will also be a memorial service in Northern Virginia on Oct. 22nd.  Click here to RSVP.  Finally, there will be a prayer vigil at a Washington, DC Planned Parenthood abortion facility in honor of Kortney and Sophy this Saturday from 11:00 – 12:00 pm.  Kortney prayed and sidewalk counseled at this abortion facility often.  Click here to RSVP.

Abortion advocates commit hate crimes?

Abortion advocates just tore down crosses at the University of Buffalo as part of a pro-life cemetery of the innocents.  These are peaceful displays of crosses memorializing the preborn victims of abortion.

Phil Eddy (past Rock For Life Chapter coordinator and currently Students for Life’s Northeast Field Coordinator) just posted on my facebook wall the current situation at the University of Buffalo.   Here’s the lowdown:

  1. Pro-lifers set up display Sunday night
  2. Vandals tear out all crosses and signs and tossed them in the garbage
  3. Campus police recover vandalized signs and crosses
  4. Pro-lifers defiantly put up the display again
  5. Two students arrested, possibly for hate crimes
  6. More students punished for kicking over crosses after it was set-up again
Seeing pro-life displays destroyed on public universities is nothing new.  Phil does a great job documenting a number of recent crimes committed against pro-lifers on college campuses on his blog entry here.
As we seek to end abortion lets also keep praying for those who advocate for abortion, that they refrain from committing crimes against pro-lifers.

National Pro-Life Youth Podcast Episode 005: Fatherhood Begins in the Womb

On the latest episode the National Pro-Life Youth Podcast we have two interviews for you!  First I interview Ryan Bomberger, Co-Founder of The Radiance Foundation. Ryan recently unleashed a TooManyAborted campaign called, Fatherhood Begins in the Womb.  Listen as Ryan describes the project and how you can get involved.  Ryan has a compelling story.

On the second half, Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America interviews Julia Pritchett, a junior at the University of Arkansas, President of the pro-life group on her campus, and former Students for Life Summer Missionary. Julia gives us a great look into how the 9-week, cyclical summer Missionary internship works, what it was like working for SFLA, another national pro-life group and inside a Congressional office, and how she’s able to apply what she learned from her internship on her campus!

Music provided by our good friends Manic Drive off of their latest CD, Epic.

National Pro-Life Youth Podcast Announced

NEWS RELEASE – Media contact, Erik Whittington erik@rockforlife.org

Washington, DC (March 29, 2011) – Students for Life of America and Rock For Life have announced today a new, collaborative project – The National Pro-Life Youth Podcast.

“We are so excited to provide yet another tool for the Pro-Life Generation,” says Kristan Hawkins, executive director of Students for Life of America. “These podcasts are a great way for young people to get educated, equipped and stay in-tune with what’s going on and what other groups are doing to advance the cause for LIFE.”

We want young people to be excited to be pro-life and engage their campuses and communities to fight the greatest injustice our nation has ever seen – abortion,” says Erik Whittington, executive director of Rock For Life. “This podcast is going to be fun, showcase new and upcoming pro-life bands, musicians and songs and young people who are savings lives today!”

Kristan Hawkins, and Erik Whittington, both bring years of podcast recording experience to this new adventure. Kristan has been the host of “On Campus with Students for Life.” Her program focused on interviewing pro-life leaders on college campuses nationwide. Erik has been hosting the “Rock For Life Netcast” which has featured pro-life songs and interviews by various artists such as BarlowGirl, SONICFLOOd, Rebecca St. James and many others. Both programs were hosted by “National Pro-Life Radio.”

The show’s first guest is the “Tell Congress” Video Contest Winner who, for the very first time on YouTube shared her testimony of family abuse that was covered up by Planned Parenthood: three of her siblings were aborted and after years of abuse, her father was finally put behind bars.

The National Pro-Life Youth Podcast is a weekly show that can be found online at
