During the whole Susan G. Komen for the Cure / Planned Parenthood controversy last week The Decemberists spoke out – on the side of Planned Parenthood, saying that they are, “… a vital resource in the battle against breast cancer.” Really, guys? They don’t even offer mammograms!
On a Feb. 2nd post on Facebook The Decemberists announced their displeasure in Komen for cutting off funds to Planned Parenthood, citing a “fear campaign being waged against PP by the right.” On this post they also announced that they were redirecting funds from their Team Jenny t-shirts and buttons from Komen for the Cure to Planned Parenthood’s Breast Health Emergency Fund. Did I mention they don’t even provide mammograms?
On Saturday they posted their approval of Komen’s switch-o-roo while also stating that for now on proceeds from their Team Jenny t-shirts and buttons will go to Planned Parenthood’s Breast Health Emergency Fund. On top of that Jenny personally will be supporting the Oregan and SW Washington affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Jenny has been personally affected by breast cancer, saying, “Two studies funded by Komen created treatments that are part of my current cancer care.” I am thrilled that Jenny has battled cancer and come out healthy but it boggles my mind that her and her band would financially support an organization who has little to nothing to do with finding a cure for cancer. Not only that but Planned Parenthood exasperates the problem through surgical & chemical abortions.
The Decemberists are an indie folk rock band from a recent home of mine, Portland, Oregon. They have 6 full length CD’s out, the last three on Capitol Records. They were quoted in Rolling Stone and The Oregonian regarding this issue.
Keep these guys in your thoughts and prayers, that they would withhold financial and vocal support from Planned Parenthood, who are the nation’s largest abortion provider and who has duped most of America into thinking that they are some big supporter of women’s health.
